Category Development Lead

Role Responsiblities

Category Development Lead is responsible for proactively identifying growth opportunities for company brands and respective categories. The person will partner with company stakeholders buying teams to bring shopper-centric thought-leadership that delivers actionable solutions. This position actively engages and builds relationships with multiple levels internally and externally. Effective time management, organization, and the ability to self-motivate are required in order to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

The Target Category Development Lead must possess and consistently demonstrate an analytic aptitude, a high degree of proactiveness, strategic thinking, attention to detail, and operate with the highest level of integrity.  Provide category and shopper-centric analysis using multiple data points, including but not limited to syndicated data, retailer portals, & custom research. Proactively identify trends and opportunities to drive category and the company’s Consumer Brand growth.

  • Lead Category reviews and development of assortment & POG analysis and recommendations.
  • Analyze and evaluate new item performance and promotional trends across category.
  • Track distribution and shelf space metrics for organizational reporting.
  • Support line reviews, annual customer planning and monthly business reviews.
  • Build strong customer relationships and drive category partnership opportunities.
  • Partner with our internal cross functional teams to develop category strategies & stories across DSMP executions.
  • Provide insights to inform and support development of channel/customer specific executions.
  • Expand shared learning and category insights across team and broader organization for influence internally on strategic planning.

Role Requirements

  • 5+ years of CPG experience, with 2+ years in Category Management and / or Shopper Insights role. B.S. or B.A. degree.
  • Ability to influence decision makers across all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to proactively identify customer/category insights and translate them into a compelling retailer story and set of actionable recommendations.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience leveraging consumer/shopper insights, as well as syndicated scan and panel data (IRI/Circana required, Numerator strongly preferred, Vendor IQ experience a plus).
  • Strong proficiency in Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience leveraging Power BI platform a plus.
  • Proficiency using Space Management applications a plus.
  • Strong oral/written communication & project management skills.
